Medieval, or traditional, crossbow shooting is very popular in Europe, particularly Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden and other countries. There are also societies of Creative Anachronism or medieval re-enactment groups in may other new world countries.

Shooting is mainly 3D and Target.

Most of the equipment is made by the shooters, using designs and materials which have not changed much since the 13th century.
